Royal Tombs

Four thousand years ago, the kings of Ur built an elaborate mausoleum as their final resting place. In the 1920s, Leonard Woolley uncovered this breathtaking tomb next to an earlier royal cemetery. Today brick staircases still lead to vaulted tomb chambers below the ruins of the city, yet a century of decay has left the mausoleum too fragile for visitors
